A NOTE FROM RANDALHello Everyone!
Welcome to our new readers and thank you to all who share this newsletter with others.
We have missed a month's issue trying to find a better way of getting this to our subscribers. Email filters have made it very difficult so a large percentage of people are not getting this. We've also noticed that some people have switched to subscribing by RSS feeds so they have total control over what they choose to read without depending on email.
You might be ready to make the switch yourself. There are many readers to choose from. You'll find something that looks familiar with the choices here where you can subscribe to
The Frugal Life News Feed.
Frugally yours,
Randal

Cleaning
1.
Substitute Dishwasher Detergent -
I have a theory that I'm trying to find out if it will work. I think that baking soda plus perhaps a second ingredient will make a nice detergent for the dishwasher. (cascade is so $$$) Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm not sure if baking soda alone is enough to sanitize dishes (especially since the dog sometimes licks them) - thanks in advance!2.
Chamois Cloth Has Hardened -
Does anyone know how to soften a chamois cloth that has hardened?
Finances
I have a wonderful husband, but he does enjoy a beer or two after work on occasion. He pays with his debit card, at a local neighborhood bar. Since I'm the one to keep an eye on our banking, I do it on-line. Whenever I see he's stopped in at lunch (which he'll usually let me know about) or that he's stopped in for a quick cold one, I go on-line and transfer an equal amount into a savings account. This way, his habit actually costs him double, but still puts away for us. I won't deny him a beer, he's a hard working man, but I do think restitution sometimes needs to be twice the crime. As long as we can afford his luxury, why not? Does anyone think this is crazy? I truly appreciate and certainly enjoy all your great postings!
Miscellaneous
Newbie to Forum but Oldie to TFL - Hello I'm new to the forum but not to TFL. I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I was online awhile back and had stumbled across a page that talked about which vegetables and fruits you should put together and the ones you shouldn't for whatever reasons. Has anyone heard of anything like that. If so can someone please tell me about that as I was never taught how to do that when I was growing up. Now I'm wondering if that's why some of our vegetables and fruits spoil as fast as they seem too. Thank you for any help you can give me with this. God Bless each and everyone of you and your families too. - louise_t.

Utilities
Has Anyone Seen the "Icyball" Before? - Do a Google search for "icyball" and see the refrigerator that works without electricity. I haven't used one but I have corresponded with someone that has. The ammonia based refrigeration system is basically the same as used in RV gas refrigerators, In my experience, the biggest problem breaking free of the utilities is refrigeration. Icy ball can be used with any heat source.

From The Frugal Lawyer Blog
Here’s a list of 180 money saving tips that can turn your financial life around 180 degrees. These are things that I have learned while reading blogs or other books. I’ve tried to provide links to blog posts and other articles that elaborate more on the tip. This was a fun exercise. While I personally don’t practice every single tip listed, it was a good way to find out how I can do better on saving money.
Automobile/Transportation 1. Wash and vacuum your car at home.
2. Buy a used car. New cars drop significantly in value as soon as you drive off the lot.
3. Get rid of your car. If you’re married, just have one.
4. Keep your tires inflated at the correct pressure.
5. Do not carry unneeded weight in your vehicle. Excess weight puts a heavier load on the engine.
6. Accelerate slowly and smoothly. Avoid jackrabbit starts. Get into high gear as quickly as possible.

hi - I'm a newbie to the site - try using skype for phone service. If you already pay for internet access for other reasons, it is a greatalternative to epensive toll calls. You sign up and if you call another computer user the call is free and if you call someone's land line it is very cheap. For example calling my father in England from California is less than 1 cent per minute. You just need a headset.
