DMSO – Human Use

Q. A friend recently told me about the many uses of a product called DMSO. You can buy it at health food stores. She said it can relieve just about every ailment you can think of from acne to joint pain and that it works on pets too. I looked it up on the internet and it certainly sounds like a "wonder drug." Has anyone heard of this before or has anyone used the product? Are there any testimonies out there? I would like to hear from others who may have used it. Thank you. – Ana

My aunt used to use it all the time. I think it comes in a gel and liquid form. She would swear by it! If you had anything that hurt she would get that out and rub it on. She mostly had neck pain. She would rub some on the back of her neck and then cover it with a thin cling wrap. That is because it would otherwise leave a wet-greasy mark on her shirt collar. It has a very weird odor also. But she was such a believer in DMSO! – Connie

We have long used DMSO for our horses. It works great on the legs when they have been worked and are a bit sore. I have never heard of people using it, though. I guess if it is good enough for your beloved animals, then it must be fine for humans—IF used moderately and not in large doses. I would do some careful checking with your own doctor AND veterinarian before using it on your own self.

An alternative might be Everflex Cream which has proven scientific research to help.  I go with the natural stuff before drugs, but I’ve found mixed feelings on DMSO.

My father used DMSO for years. We used it on our horses, and you could only get it from a veterinarian. I am surprised that you can now buy it at health food stores. He claimed that it relieved his aches and pains – the problem? It smells! It goes through your system quickly and the smell comes out your pores!! No one else in my family would use it because of the smell. I don’t know of any scientific research, but he swore by it! – Nancy

DMSO is a bi-product of the pulp and paper industry. It was discovered and tested in Camas Washington more than 25 years ago. Many people claim to receive relief from arthritic joint pain. Since my mother-in-law worked in this paper mill she was able to get some of the product for herself and my husband, unfortunately it did not work on his arthritic knees AND it has a very strange side effect. No matter where you use it you will have the strong taste of garlic in your mouth. So it’s like any other ‘wonder’ drug. Maybe it will help and maybe not. – Toni

My dog has a disease called panniculitis, which is inflammation of the subcutaneous fat under the skin. It is the result of an allergic reaction to her rabies vaccination. She has been ill for almost 2 years with this with no cure in sight, just management. She get lumps under her skin. We had one removed which helped her but is getting more. Our Vet Dermatologist and the lab analysts have told me to use DMSO on these lumps and it should shrink them and to be sure to use MEDICAL grade. It also comes in an industrial grade that is NOT for use on humans or animals. All the research I did on the Internet showed me that this is a dangerous drug if you don’t really need it. The vet told me to use latex gloves when I apply it to the dog’s skin because it will be absorbed into my skin which is dangerous. It is used on horses as a liniment on their legs for soreness. Take care and do some research before you use it. I have decided not to use it on my pet unless she gets really bad. – Erline

I used to work with horses at K-State. We used DMSO some there and it does indeed help with almost all that ails the joints, etc. HOWEVER, please be advised that when you touch it, even the tiniest bit, you will have a horrible (sort-of rotten garlic) taste in your mouth ALL day. When I used it on the horses, I always used gloves and tried not to breathe it either because that did it too. It absorbs through your skin and causes the taste. But some people don’t have this problem. I took an unscientific survey with my co-workers and it doesn’t seem to bother men as much as women. The vet I worked with in KC used it on his knees and never had the taste problem but I sure do and so did the other women in both places. So, before you spend much money on it take heed. If your pain is bad enough, you may want to try it anyway. LeAnn

DMSO was used by horse owners and vets for years for swelling and achy joints. Because the orginal was so smelly it wasn’t used by people. Now that it has been perfected, you will get noticable relief from it. I use another form of it internally, MSM, because I have fibromyalgia and at times, hurt everywhere. Mine is combined with glucosomine but you have to take it a couple of weeks before you feel the difference.. – Crystal

  1. If the smell bothers you, place your bottle of DMSO in the refrigerator overnight (capped), it will freeze, it freezes solid at 65 degrees F, then take it out and allow it to thaw, most of the smell will be gone without affecting the healing properties. You do not need to use the freezer, just place it in your refrigerator.

I notice that the DMSO I purchase in winter doesn’t smell as bad as the ones I buy in summer, the frozen/thawed less smelly DMSO works as well as the smelly ones.

  2. I first heard about DMSO horse liniment from Tampa FL critical care nurse. I have suffered from chronic nerve pain due to extreme damage from a dog attack when I was 12 years old. At that age. Doctors told me to “just live with the pain”. Pain that at times has been so severe that I would begin to hallucinate. Of course, Doctors don’t like to prescribe pain meds. And nothing available over the counter has ever helped, until DMSO! I use DMSO very sparingly, and only when my pain levels are so high that I cannot sleep because of the pain. I use absolutely nothing else.

        1. This is flatly incorrect. It CAN be ingested orally, provided it is pharmaceutical grade 99.9% pure. It can also be infused intravenously at about 5% concentration
There are two cautions with oral ingestion:
          1. It’s an oxidative agent, so antioxidants are required internally to manage the radicals. The same applies with MSM (Methyl Sulphonyl Methane), which is its oxide, DMSO2. Therefore, commencing dosage must be small to allow the body to produce antioxidants to collect and utilise the radicals. This is one of the mechanisms by which DMSO improves health – through those antioxidants, which deliver the radicals where they are used to boost immunity, etcetera. Over a period of 10 days to 3 weeks, dosages can be increased slowly to full therapeutic amounts.
          2. Allowing DMSO to become contaminated is dangerous. It will increase the efficacy of beneficial plant compounds by nearly 1,000 to one, but will also do the same with toxins! Therefore, handling with care is imperative. Never use any but the correct types of container (glass, wood, stainless, ceramic, medical grade polyethylene or polypropylene) and never let it contact any rubbers, plastics or other textiles.
In topical use, Caution #2 still applies.
In intravenous use, there are additional cautions besides #1 and #2.
It is best used topically. DMSO is a potent analgesic as strong as Morphine, but its analgesic effect lasts three times longer. It penetrates the skin very easily and carries active compounds with it through the skin.
My favourite use of it is as an extracting solvent for herbs, such that it then becomes the core ingredient of a fabulous herbal formula – a topical analgesic, antiinflammatory, microbicide, immune moderator, healer & regenerator so powerful, it is literally a local anaesthetic. Just a few drops kills pain completely for about 10 hours. Unbeatable for arthritis, sprains & strains, severe sunburn and is the absolute CURE for chronic tendonosis.
DMSO truly is a wonder drug, but must always be treated with great respect.

          1. Can you tell me where to but the dmso in a glass jar? I use dmso and it has worked wonders for me, but it is in a plastic container jar. I would like to buy it in glass though. Thanks for your info.

  3. Where are you purchasing your DMSO? I bought mine from ebay and it is supposed to be 99.9% Pharma grade. It has never left me with even the slightest taste in my mouth so I am wondering if it is the real stuff. I have also read somewhere that high quality DMSO shouldn’t have that garlic taste but I don’t know if that is true.

    1. Dr Stanley Jacob has researched DMSO for many years…Oregon University Medical U. His DMSO is made with 99.98% purity and has not garlic odor. He maintains that if there is an odor, it is not pure enough. Solvents can be used to extract and it is imperative to only use pharmaceutical or medical grade DMSO. It is available by prescription in 8 states and 125 other countries. It is also allowed in all states for interstitial cystitis. I have shared it with many. In addition to pain relief, it is an anti bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral. It reduces inflammation and seems to be a panacea ..healing what needs to be healed. The only reason that it is not available by prescription is money…it can’t be patented…Amazing that medical treatment is the number one killer in our country, but people think nothing of ingesting a pharmaceutical which is a known killer, but if it is by prescription, we can’t believe that it could be bad for us.

      1. I’m a 66-yr-old woman & i just started using dmso with aloe yesterday…I used it on my herniated back discs, the osteoarthritis in my foot, the tendonitis in my elbow, & my torn ligaments…& it actually really does work for me! and i had many doubts, indeed, but i decided to try it. I’m glad i did! i used the dmso again before i went to bed, & then again this morning, but after doing a lot of reading, i do believe that it affects people differently & just takes a little time & experimentation; case in point: not once have i had any taste of garlic whatsoever…no smell of any kind. but it still takes away my pains; when used in multiple sites, I’ve found that i feel better on the places i put it on first (like it goes in order of application), but regardless, it works. we got it from lucky vitamins, where we get all our vitamins, & it was about $22, i think, for 4 oz. and for me, it’s been garlic free to boot! it’s 99.9% pure dmso, with 70% dmso & 30% aloe vera in a cream base (rose scented, but very light), & is made by nature’s gift. and yes, i definitely agree that it’s all about money, but please don’t get me started on that barrel of worms!

        1. Yes that is the cheapest most affordable way to go It is my way too. I mix it my self in spray bottle 70% DMSO TO 30% distilled water and spray it wherever I have arthritic pain in my body knees back ect. I also take a tablespoon of MSM in distilled water. Gives plenty of energy once one is detoxed for me was just 3 days detoxing at 1 teaspoon twice a day felt tired and no energy then boom lots of energy on day 4 for me.I must say not bedridden anymore it all accumulates more and more as time goes on

      1. I recently bought some dmso from the farm store. It has all kinds of warnings on it!!! I have bought dmso on the internet and thought it was the most wonderful thing ever. For burns it works wonders. A health food store owner told me this was available at the farm store so I thought I would try it, but the warnings are troublesome. Any body tried the vet type maybe watered down. I have knees that are bone and bone and no help from doctors. I am desperate. thanks!

        1. The ONLY place I have ever bought DMSO is at a feed store…you can hype up everything with pretty labels…my dmso is 6 bucks for the toll on…used it 30 yrs….from the feed store!

        2. The vet type, is 99.9 percent pure and is the strongest that one can purchase.I have some here that I am using on my horse. It says on the jar, “not approved for human use.”

        3. Cindy, for your knees google adequan which is polysulfated glycosamino glycans. It works wonders if you can get your hands on it. (Veterinary prescriprion) The other brand or what some call generic is made in china and is worthless if not dangerous!

          1. I’m a Certified Veterinary Technician- Adequan is beef based, if you have any allergies or issues with beef, definitely would caution using it in humans, as well as it not having any HUMAN dosage instructions. Within the last 5 years the dosing schedules have been re-vamped for both cats and dogs, and even though both are mammalian they utilize different dosage structures.
It is NOT safe in humans (yet).
But IF someone was going to utilize it in themselves, it is very expensive, and the horse version would be more cost-effective for dogs/cats/whomever….. even though that is only approved for Equine usage.

        4. Yes 99% pure vet grade is fine on my knees it has done wonders get a glass bottle and mix 70% of the DMSO TO 30% distilled water and a spray cap.

.You will feel a light burning feeling and tingling and when dry like 30 min your good you need to make sure the area is real clean DMSO will take anything on you into you so be real clean.Great stuff do not be scared I understand as I was scared too. Not scared anymore it is a great wonder medicine. There are DMSO groups you can join and ask anything you want all proven and I never had the garlicky smell at all maybe that was due to being detox with the MSM I take daily.

  4. I’ve been using DSMO and comfrey cream as a facial daily for almost a year— great results! but I’m getting a little nervous about it, thinking maybe it’s not good for me?

    1. Dear Mory, would you mind sharing the ratio of dsmo to comfrey cream or the amount. Do you use the dsmo full strength ( 50% or 70%) and where do you find comfrey cream.

Thank you. I live in Ontario, Canada

      1. Nothing to worry about. Comfrey warrants caution if taken internally, but topically, there is no problem. DMSO has no toxicity of its own at all, though it must never be allowed to be contaminated by anything toxic.

      1. Did the one you got have all kinds of warnings on it??? Mine says may be unsafe
not approved for human use. This is used on animals for sure. How do you administer it?? I used it on a moistened q tip on a skin tag and no problem so far. Had irritated area where the tag was and later it fell off and healed over nite. I want to use it on painful knees and back but was wondering how much to use.

        1. Cindy, see my earlier posts. Safety with DMSO is almost purely to do with handling and avoidance of contamination. Used externally, it can raise some irritation, but this can be ameliorated by olive oil and soothing herbs like Aloe or Jojoba. Sensitive skin areas, such as around the genitals, can feel like they’re on fire for 10 to 15 minutes and likewise open wounds, so it’s only used on “normal” skin.

  5. My mom used it for years and my daughter ran a 5k race once and i used it on her lags when she had cramps. I really like it and i would recommend it.

  6. Back in 1983 I played college baseball. We played from April to the end of May in Ohio. Needless to say the weather was a bit chilly. Many of my teammates developed different kinds of injuries throughout the season. I was the catcher and had a hamstring pull. I tried everything to ease the pain for weeks. Then our manager prepped me with a dose of DMSO on the back of my thigh. We first cleansed the area with alcohol and washed it thoroughly with warm water. After applying the DMSO we then wrapped it with a clean dressing. I played a double header that day without even thinking I had a hamstring injury. This chemical is certainly the best when it comes to pulled muscles. From what I understand it passes through the skin and penetrates the muscle fibers clearing out any residue of blood or liquid that may be trapped thus eliminating the pain. Be safe, clean, and be sparing when using DMSO. Do not apply it like liniment. It will allow you to go about your daily chores as if there were nothing wrong at all. Oh by the way, I was 29 that year so maybe age had a bit to do with DMSOโ€™s success also. I swear by it though.

  7. I have looked everywhere with no answer. I bought 99.9% pure DMSO that claims no pyrogene, nor other impurities. I want to find out if I can take this orally. Distributed by FWI, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Can I get some help with this? People are afraid to say if they have or not.

    1. I once read about someone who took DMSO orally for different uses, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, etc. He had no side effects whatsoever! Just make sure it is in very small doses. Good luck!

    2. I have been drinking dmso for months. take a teaspoon every morning and night, I also use it topically. almost completely pain free. I had a severe fall in 1998, used dmso back then but was told it was poison to human and only for horses. Had another fall 5/15 and joked about dmso working, went online and did a lot of research. this is a miracle solution.

    3. Yes, it is recommended to take 1 teaspoon per day in juice or other liquid. I use tomato juice as it masks the garlic flavor the best. I have also used boullion. The book DMSO for Doctors has some good information about how to use it.

    4. After 4 months of searching locally & the Internet, apricotsbygod.info just popped up. It sounds like it’s 99% but the lady said it smells like garlic. Many say medical grade doesn’t, sooo. I was told by Jacob Lab who is closing and doesn’t have anymore to contact spectrum labs but they won’t sell to consumer; spectrum said to contact a local compounding pharmacy. 4 said they carry but require a Drs prescription. Anyone have success with apricotsbygod?

    5. You can take it orally, though it tastes disgusting. Start with small dosages less than 1 ml and build up over 10 to 21 days. That allows the body to compensate for oxygen radicals. Once properly adapted to using it, dosages of up to 60 ml per day of 99.9% undiluted for an average adult are considered safe. However, it should not be necessary to use nearly as much as that!

    1. I buy it on the internet from pet stores. 99%pure and say pharmacutical grade. have not had a problem. I have shared this with so many people with ailments with fantastic results and they have ordered by the gallon from pet stores online. no problem and a lot cheaper by the gallon.

    1. Does anyone have any other supplier to recommend, now that Jacob labs is closing. i have only just become aware of dmso yesterday and was recommended to buy it from Jacob labs. Got excited but unfortunately came quickly to know they were closing down.

      1. Almost any “feed and grain” store carries 99.9% DMSO, distributed by FWI, Tulsa, OK. I practically bathe in the stuff every morning “after” my shower; knees, ankles, shoulders, lower back and have done so for many years. Never consumed it oraly but know that it is absorbed by the body and anything you mix with it or happen to have on your skin will be taken through the skin into your body, so I may as well drink it. ? I mix it it with 75% DMSO/25% Thermoflex Horse Liniment, in the gell form, for my daily “after” bath. That combination “burned” the skin of a friend of mine, so proceed with caution if you feel brave or foolish enough to try it yourself. I do wish they would package DMSO in glass containers however. One of the plastic jars says that is “compatable” with DMSO, but in my “jumble opinion” the only “compatable” container for the stuff would be those made of glass! -Haley-

    1. Pharmachem, Eagle Farm, QLD. It’s a veterinary supplier offering the pharmaceutical grade stuff. They don’t advertise on the website, but they do have it, because my first litre of DMSO 8 years ago was from Pharmachem.

  8. WebMD has a full article and info on DMSO

    full more info at

    http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-874-DMSO%20%28DIMETHYLSULFOXIDE%29.aspx?activeIngredientId=874&activeIngredientName=DMSO%20%28DIMETHYLSULFOXIDE%29

    Here is just an excerpt:

    DMSO (DIMETHYLSULFOXIDE) Overview Information

DMSO is a prescription medicine and dietary supplement. It can be taken by mouth, applied to the skin (used topically), or injected into the veins (used intravenously or by IV).

DMSO is taken by mouth, used topically, or given intravenously for the management of amyloidosis and related symptoms. Amyloidosis is a condition in which certain proteins are deposited abnormally in organs and tissues.

DMSO is used topically to decrease pain and speed the healing of wounds, burns, and muscle and skeletal injuries. DMSO is also used topically to treat painful conditions such as headache, inflammation, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and severe facial pain called tic douloureux. It is used topically for eye conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, and problems with the retina; for foot conditions including bunions, calluses, and fungus on toenails; and for skin conditions including keloid scars and scleroderma. It is sometimes used topically to treat skin and tissue damage caused by chemotherapy when it leaks from the IV that is used to deliver it. DMSO is used either alone or in combination with a drug called idoxuridine to treat pain associated with shingles (herpeszoster infection).

Intravenously, DMSO is used to lower abnormally high blood pressure in the brain. It is also given intravenously to treat bladder infections (interstitial cystitis) and chronic inflammatory bladder disease. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved certain DMSO products for placement inside the bladder to treat symptoms of chronic inflammatory bladder disease. DMSO is sometimes placed inside bile ducts with other medications to treat bile duct stones.

In manufacturing, DMSO is used as an industrial solvent for herbicides, fungicides, antibiotics, and plant hormones.

    How does it work?

DMSO helps medicines get through the skin and can affect proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and water in the body.

REMEMBER: responsible and intelligent people do their own research before using any product, including substances recommended by so called doctors.

  9. I’ve used it for my arthritis…. Work great! But small doses every few months! It’s a horse medicine! Makes you feel great! No pain! But no fluid or pressure! Bad for organs… BUT!!! When you hurt and get relief… You don’t care!! Even vets taking it off the market! Do t use it unless you have to… Then in super small doses!!

    1. Dr. Jacobs in articles stated he drank it everyday and lived till 91. I used it everyday orally and topically. ALL MY FRIENDS use it everyday and have had no side effects. it is written up as being very low in toxticity and to me safer than taking tylenol all the time

    2. DMSO is safer than aspirin. It is not being widely used as big pharma cannot patent it and cannot make their billions of dollars from it. It is not hard on your organs. It actually helps them. It is a vasodiolator so will increase blood flow and will help your body heal faster for any problem.

I have severe pain from several issues. My pain doctor had used DMSO for injections until insurance refused to pay for it’s use. This is due to pressure from pharmaceutical companies, not due to its’ safety. DMSO helps me with pain from my back, sciatica, torn hamstrings, neuropathy, RA and it works mostly in less than a minute. I think it is even helping with depression as it can pass the blood/brain barrier and supply more oxygen to the brain.

DMSO is used to preserve organs for transplant. Ice cannot be used as it causes crystals and destroys the organs. DMSO safely keeps the organs viable for transplant.

You do need to make sure you get high quality product, in glass bottles and manufactured in the USA. DMSO can obsorb toxins from some plastics. I have been told it is the softer plastics that have the toxins. Yes, you need to do your research and be informed before use. If you look at the inserts for any prescription drug you will find many more potential side effects than from DMSO.

      1. I just read your comments on DMSO — thank you so much! We always had it on our farm in Oregon — and I would love to be able to find and use it again. I am 62.

Where do you get it from?

Thank you so much for your information — such a blessing! Robin

          1. Peter, I want to use the DMSO in a bath to absorb the detox better. I have very inflamed skin thou. How much do you use.

  10. The elixir of life. If your an animal it is available now this minute but us humans must suffer the attempts of science and overpayed pharmaceutical companies as they administer their legal poisons. Why is it that I am not able to obtain the simple request that clear information in the use of dmso should be available. Why is it that medicinal help cannot be freely offered, if you wish consider me to be a small pony or large dog with usual aches and pains perhaps some bladder problems, etc., what would be the recommended dosage and or application of dmso. I will even whinnie or bark on command. Many licks, barks, whinnies for your help.

  11. I have finally received my Amazon order of DMSO Gel. I applied it to my aching hands with a q-tip and then covered them with my pain-gloves to keep the gel off my clothes, etc. I felt pain relief in my left thumb almost instantly. The right hand has a trigger finger, so it’s not working too well yet. I did notice a slight garlicky smell from the gel in the container, but I don’t know if it will affect my breath yet. I am intending to place the container in the fridge overnight as was suggested by Wretha in her June 2014 comment.
My question is this: If this turns out to be a successful painkiller for me, will my daughter-in-law be able to use it also? She is currently breastfeeding a 17 mo. old. (I was actually thinking that maybe the breast milk will start to taste like garlic and then the mother will be able to wean her off it sooner.) Any opinions?

  12. Hi ,I have researched DMSO for weeks now & amazed at proven results .I dont know why it is so hard to purchase in Australia & mostly sold either on e/bay or Amazon 1 did find a website in australia but once again not giving guaranteed details of its purity ,which is very important that it is medical grade .DR jacob the founder of this inc his store is now closed .Please can anyone help ,I want the medical grade 99% pure liquid in bulk I am in agony due to several spinal surgeries suffering nerve pain .thankyou

    1. No reply from Pharmachem regarding current availability and pricing, so I don’t know what’s going on there. RM Jensen product, 99.9% through eBay or Amazon. Over the years since my first 500 ml from Pharmachem, I’ve used the Jensen DMSO from the US. It’s good quality. Bottles are medical grade polyethylene, which is safe. Australian Customs does not block its importation.

    2. Mitre Ten Hardware store in Fernvale, Queensland is where I bought some 99.9% pure DMSO. You need this and no less in percentage. Don’t use the 90% as it is not pure enough. But now I find I can buy it on Amazon with free postage to Ipswhich where I live for only $31.00 instead of $50.50 I paid in the store for 500ml bottle. Don’t worry about the bottle being made out of plastic as it has to be a certain quality to contain DMSO, even for horses!

    1. Nikita only offers small bottles of 70% concentration DMSO up to 500 ml. No undiluted stuff. I get my Zeolite from this great supplier, but it’s no good for DMSO. Try Pharmachem, Eagle Farm QLD or R.M. Jensen, Amazon or eBay.

    1. There is an organization called American College of Advancement in Medicine, Laguna Hills, CA. 714-583-7666 or 800-532-3688 or http://www.acam.org. They may be able to help you find a doctor in your area that works with DMSO.

It might help to use 1 teaspoon of DMSO in juice or boullion (I use tomato juice to mask the garlic taste.) once or twice a day. It won’t hurt and could help.

    1. You might try the book DMSO for Doctors. It has more information that other places I have read. I got it at Amazon. You do need to work with a doctor to do IV treatments. There are eight states that have laws allowing doctors to treat with DMSO for other conditions than the bladder disease. I know Florida, Texas, Louisianna, but you can do a web search and find the others.

Do your research and make sure you have good quality. I have purchased from two suppliers that both claimed 99.99 pharma grade. One works great and the other does not. The one that works does have the garlic taste and does not burn the skin- well, full strength a bit of itchy/warmth. The other burned badly – I am going to contact them to complain as both should have been identical product. This one worked wonderfully: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141924321308

  13. I did a bing search (better than google) and came up with dmso.com the site of ValHoma of Oklahoma that sells a gel in different sizes, a roll-on, and liquid in pints or gallons — 99% purity they claim — someone on here used it with good results. I just placed my order.

  14. I can understand your son’s perspective as I smelled it on someone who used it regularly. It was strong and extremely unpleasant from across the room. It seemed to come out on his breath and skin.

  15. How can I mix my own DMSO Cream with Aloe Vera 70%. It separates out as it sits. Is there something added to bind everything together? There is one product manufactured that is very nice, but it is expensive.
    Thanks. .

    1. Personally, I don’t believe in DMSO creams. One must be incredibly careful what is used as the cream base and even if you do use one that’s safe, it’s just an inert substance. Try olive oil. First soak aloe herb in pure pharma grade DMSO a couple of days, filter it through laboratory filter paper and then add olive oil and decant into dripper bottles. Filter papers are circular. Fold in half twice to quarter circle and then prise it to open into a cone. Nest this in a funnel placed in a bottle and put the DMSO-aloe through it. Add olive oil and then shake the filtrate bottle well before decanting into each dripper bottle. This ensures a uniform mix in each bottle. The olive oil will also settle out when allowed to stand, but you simply shake the bottle before using it and rub a little on with naked fingers. Very effective.

      1. Orally or intravenously makes no difference, but the slow buildup dosage protocol is important! DMSO distributes throughout the entire body either way. Topically is different – somewhat more localised. DMSO should not present problems with kidney failure and may even help restore some function.

  16. Excellent information! I was in an auto accident in 1971 and just learned to live with my disabilities and enjoy my wheelchair. I did watch that 60 minutes TV show, but thought DMSO would be more dangerous and using DMSO may revive something that I did not want revived! But in my 50s came arthritis, shingles, cracking joints, and so on. I finally got DMSO gel last month, and did a lot of searching for info before using it. No garlicky smell or taste that I know of so far, but I have not used it long enough to be sure. Terrific info here! THANKS!

  17. I have severe shoulder pain constantly. And I happen to have gotten into an altercation and feel like it’s a hundred times worse. Is this a good thing to try? My boss says to use it and then put veterinary leniment gel over it. Or should I try to get some pain meds???

    1. DMSO thins the blood – it has anticoagulant properties and can lyse blood clots, so it might present the risk of renewing the bleeding. Still, it might only cause a problem with a relatively fresh bruise. There are a lot of variables – how old the bruise, what extent the damaged capillaries have repaired themselves, how much DMSO is used and so forth.

  18. That’s right. You can’t smell it. But others who have not taken it can, until it gets into their system and dulls their sense of smell, too. It’s the same story with garlic.

    1. Also, you can buy DMSO 99.9% pure on Amazon. It is $20 cheaper than the hardware store that sells stock feeds where I bought my first bottle. Free postage too!

  19. I’m a retired RN and probably the most ‘doubting Thomas’ person you’ll ever come across. Both of my knees should be replaced and I have arthritis in my neck and spine . Plus good old Fibromyalgia. For the past 7 months I was having problems walking up steps. I would need to hold on to rail and pull myself up. My legs were weak and ached contiuously. Took Advil or Tylenol each day with no relief. My son was visiting and he had a health care book he wanted me to read an article about cancer cures with diet ( no, that doesn’t work ). While flipping through it I did see DMSO mentioned for pain. I ordered the book from Amazon : DMSO Nature’s Healer by Dr Morton Walker’. After reading about all the research on it I decided to take a chance and order the DMSO from Amazon. I got it in a glass bottle 8 oz. ( I didn’t want to take a chance with plastic). The label has DMSO on a grey background with 99.995 % Pure Parma Grade in small letters above it. It is colorless and has No Odor to it !! I apply it with my hands to my legs and neck morning and night. Wash your hands afterwards. I actually can walk up and down stairs like everyone else ! I’ve been able to do house and yard work that I wasn’t able to do before. Most of all I Don’t have that continuous, debilitating pain ! It’s difficult to believe something so simple can bring so much relief. My daughter has problems with Trigeminal Neuralgia in her face. She used the DMSO diluted 50/50 with distilled water and within minutes the pain was gone. She had in the past used pain meds and still it would take days for it to go away. She has ordered and received her own bottle of DMSO. I’m so glad I was able to find out about DMSO. It has made my life livable again ! By the way, I’m no spring chicken. I was 79 in May. I love to read about the way it has helped others. Thank you.

  20. I am retired the military, with several injuries, authrittist in joints also. Someone told me to go by DMSO from tractor supply or feedstore. Bought 99% proof bottle, can I use this. The cautions on the bottle say not for human use?
