Mountain people or Farmers might know how to do it as well.  Check with some older people who might have some knowledge on the subject.  Check those Simple Living sites and stores for information.

Check your History During WWII they did this.  There should be some books in the library on the subject.  Also check those web sites that sell things that don't require electricty for products to run.  Do a web search on your subject as well.
