Most people are trying to decide between a cat or a dog .... so this is relative to that choice.

Remember that dogs tend to wind up in the vet?s office twice as often as cats, and that purebreds tend to have far more hereditary weaknesses than your average pound puppy.

Cats also require less daily maintenance since they exercise themselves and do their business in a litter box.

Getting a pet from a shelter is a great thing for the entire family.  You really feel like you've saved a life and that makes a world of difference for you and the animal.
