I believe there all all sorts of rules about what to store with what.  I don't know them all, but I do know the following:

Do not store potatoes and onions near each other - the offgasses from the onions will make your potatoes go bad (soft)quickly

Do not store avocados and bananas together, UNLESS you want the avocado to ripen faster (in this case stick them together in a paper bag and the avocado will ripen quickly)

Wish I knew more. . .

A bit off topic, but you should never put tomatoes in the fridge as that shuts off an important flavor component that never turns back on..

Here's a few tips I found on a site:

Storage Tips

Don't keep vegetables and fruit in the same drawer in the fridge. Most fruit naturally give off a harmless gas called ethylene that will make the veggies spoil faster.

Keep pears, peaches, plums, tomatoes and cantaloupe at room temperature to help them ripen faster.

Store apples in the fridge. They soften ten times faster at room temperature!

Freeze bananas that are over ripe. They're fantastic in shakes and in homemade banana bread or muffins.

Hello I'm new to the forum but not to TFL.  I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I was online awhile back and had stumbled across a page that talked about which vegetables and fruits you should put together and the ones you shouldn't for whatever reasons.  Has anyone heard of anything like that.  If so can someone please tell me about that as I was never taught how to do that when I was growing up.  Now I'm wondering if that's why some of our vegetables and fruits spoil as fast as they seem too.  Thank you for any help you can give me with this. God Bless each and everyone of you and your families too.

;D    Hi I just joined the forum and can't believe I didn't before this. I have been getting the newsletter for a long time now and have chatted with many of you thru a fundraiser I did last year for the poor in Eastern Kentucky. The people from this newsletter are wonderful and giving and because of you all many people have been blessed with many items which some are still giving to this day. I can't wait to read every post and get started.

With Quick-Reply you can write a post when viewing a topic without loading a new page. You can still use bulletin board code and smileys as you would in a normal post.
