Good remedy to get rid of ants is very simple and non-toxic to pets and all.
Sprinkle some cornmeal wherever you see them (baseboards especially) and
they will take the meal back to their colony and die. 
This takes about 1-2 weeks before you will notice a difference, but it's well worth the wait.
When I was doing this, ants that I saw I scooped up and put them in the pile.
