Govt. E-mail address for African Scam Letters

:-/  First, let me say that the gov't ALREADY KNOWS about
these letters!

Unless you have a LOT of free time on your hands, just
DELETE them and forget it! Ever wonder HOW they got YOUR address? Simple!  You entered a contest, sent off for FREEBIES or posted your e-mail on a message board or other public site and there is a software program that can 'harvest' these for the spammer.   :o

I have had an e-mail address on Yahoo for 4 years and only get about 1 spam a month. There's nothing special about Yahoo, I just don't use that e-mail to respond to FREE OFFERS.  :-/

Gat a NEW e-mail address....do NOT use it for FREE offers
and you'll cut your SPAM way back!   ;D

I copied the information below from the Federal Trade Commission's website.  I hope this helps!

"What Can I Do With the Spam in my In-Box?

Report it to the Federal Trade Commission. Send a copy of unwanted or deceptive messages to uce@ftc.gov. The FTC uses the unsolicited emails stored in this database to pursue law enforcement actions against people who send deceptive spam email.

Let the FTC know if a "remove me" request is not honored. If you want to complain about a removal link that doesn't work or not being able to unsubcribe from a list, you can fill out the FTC's online complaint form at www.ftc.gov. Your complaint will be added to the FTC's Consumer Sentinel database and made available to hundreds of law enforcement and consumer protection agencies.

Whenever you complain about spam, it's important to include the full email header. The information in the header makes it possible for consumer protection agencies to follow up on your complaint."

you will want to first notify your mail server...

attach or forward the message to abuse@"server name"

I was getting very ugly emails and started forwarding them to abuse@msn.com or abuse@hotmail.com. The email server will  track down the address it was sent from and close down the address.

if that doesn't work turn your junk mail filter up.

until the gov. learns a little more about technology we will not have adequate laws to protect us from this SPAM.

Sherli Jones:
Does anyone know if there is a US government e-mail address to send all these obnoxious seemingly African countries e-mail scams that come with regularity?  I know they are scams and should be reported, but to whom?

If anyone has such an address and has used it, I would appreciate having it.

It seems that the FCC should cover this.

Thanks for your help.
