    Sometimes satin has chemical stabilizers  in it to make it easier to work with. 

    To test your particular piece of fabric, take a 4″ square scrap and either serge the edge or otherwise stitch around the square to keep it from fraying. 
    Hand-wash it in mild soap and blow dry it with your hairdryer on a low setting. 

    The answer will be in your hands!
