I have had ant problems also, specifically carpenter ants. The way to kill any bug that breathes through its skin is to spray it or immerse it with a soapy liquid (dish detergent and water). The soap film on their skin prevents them from breathing and they are dead in 30 seconds…really!
I rid my home of carpenter ants by pouring soapy water into their “homes” and am eternally grateful to whichever friend gave me this advice.
