I’ve got a real problem. My in-laws live with us and the house is starting to get that old person smell! It’s REALLY bad in their bathroom which has no window. Any suggestions on how to rid of the smell? (and don’t suggest to get rid of the in-laws–Haha!)

Having volunterred in Nursing Homes for years, I really sympatize.  Perhaps you can volunteer to do their laundry but I do not know how you can tactfully suggest they shower more often.  The smell is coming from a lack of hygeine if their health is other wise OK.  I think I would bite the bullet and speak to them frankly about it.  Otherwise you would just have to live with it unfortunately.  Sorry I can't be of more help.

I read about this on another website and the cause is too much of a certain acid in their systems.  Other reasons are medications that give off odors from their pores and in their urine.  My advice would be to google old person smell.  There are a lot of posts about it. Sorry, I can't remember what the name of the acid was.  Then go to a health store and see if you can find some herbal remedies.
