The “Frugal Auto” section presents a unique fuel to consider for our diesel transportation needs. Let me encourage you to read it and pass it on to your friends and family, even if you don’t drive a diesel vehicle. The more visibility alternative fuels get the better chance we have of reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
To the reader wanting the Pet Brand Fudge recipe, please checkout the recipe section in the forum. There is a recipe posted there using the Pet Brand. Hope it is the one you have been searching for.
We appreciate all of your sharing of our ezines and websites.
Frugally yours,

Frugal Finances – Water, Water, Everywhere…
*********************************
Lewis Black, in his recent HBO comedy special, performed a funny bit on the current bottled water craze. He lamented the fact that, when he was a kid, water was… free! When he was thirsty from playing in the yard, he ran into the house, found the nearest faucet, and drank. If he was locked out of his house, no problem, water came from a garden hose.
It was the best of times.
There was none of this business about hydrating or 8 glasses of water daily or water bottles as fashion statements or getting in your car to drive for miles in search of water. It came to your house in pipes and you drank when you were thirsty.
This, of course, got me to thinking about water and it’s impact on Rapid Debt Elimination.
Let’s look at three prominent categories of drinking water – bottled, home filtered, and good old tap.
Bottled water covers a dizzying array of products, packaging, and a wide range of prices. Bottled water marketers have managed to turn water into a religion for many, so, I’m not about to stumble into discussing the merits of different kinds of bottled water.
I’m primarily interested in equivalent value for less money, which creates more cashflow and faster debt freedom.
I’m discussing the cheap bottled water. If you drink more expensive bottled water, multiply these results accordingly.
On Sunday, Target Stores advertised 48 16.9oz. (500ml) bottles of Market Pantry water for $7.
(48 * 16.9)/128 = 6.34 gal
$7 / 6.34 gal = $1.10/gal
Drinking 8 glasses of Market Pantry per day will drain $16.73 per person per month from your checking account. For a family of four, that’s $66.91/month.
To increase your cashflow, bottle your own home-filtered water.
There’s a bunch of home water filtering products to choose from as well. Here’s a comparison of the top 10 home water filters.
http://www.waterfiltercomparisons.com/Water_Filter_Comparison_Matrix.cfm Water Filter Comparisons
The cost-per-gallon of the most expensive system, Brita, is $0.25 (after cost of the pitcher) plus the cost of water.
Eight 8 oz. glasses of water a day for a year is 182.5 gallons. Brita water costs $45.63/year per person, or $3.80 per month. For a family of 4 that’s $15.20/month. Note: I’ve left out the cost of water. You’ll see why in a minute
Switching to Brita filtered and bottling your own water will add $51.71/month — $620.52/yr — to your cashflow. Yes. You should buy one of those large-mouth water bottles so that you can properly sanitize your bottle, but that will only set you back around $5 each.
What about the stuff that comes out of your tap? Looking at our May water bill, it’s a tiered system. The more you use, the higher your cost/gallon. The highest rate is $3.55 per 1000 gallons, or about 3 Gallons for a Penny.
Somebody out there check my math. A gallon of tap water costs 1/3rd of a penny!
Drink 8 glasses of this stuff per day and you’ll drink 182.5 gallons a year and you’ll spend about 65 cents. For a family of 4, tap water costs $2.60/yr.
Compared to a gallon of commercially bottled water, you save… well, let’s just call this free!
You may have valid reasons for not wanting to drink what comes out of your tap. But, with the array of filtering technologies available, all of which cost less per gallon than commercially bottled water, you’ll get debt-free faster filtering it yourself.

1. Has anyone ever seen a geen lady bug with black spots or a tan ladybg with green stripes? I was fishing in the Delta, (Rio Vista area of CA), near Antioch, CA. There were quite a few red lady bugs with the spots, (9). I also saw a solid colored red one. There seemed to be more than one would normally see. So, the question is, what are the green ones? They did not bite, as I have read in other forums.
