We'd like to see your ideas on saving money in the grocery budget.  We order our food (other than produce) by the case from a wholesaler.  We found a store that would allow us to do this with only a 10% markup.  We can also take advantage of their sale prices for the month which can be from 10-50% off.  It keeps our grocery budget low, even though we don't get a whole lot of variety.  But we decided a long time ago to eat to live instead of living to eat, so it works out.

Not only do we save money, but I know we save loads of time not having to drive to the grocery store all the time which would be tempting to buy snacks and junk food.  I even shop at a produce market which has little else so that I'm not tempted to bring home things we would not normally eat.

Tell us things that YOU do to save money on the groceries.  I know you have lots of creative ideas and inquiring frugal minds want to know!

I like to keep it pretty simple.  I will usually shop for my produce at the local farmers market..great prices and I get what I will need for the week.  Whenever I need groceries, I go to the store but I use a service called http://www.groceryguide.com/  and they match the local store sales to coupons that come in the newspaper, the service is free.  Matching the sales to coupons helps me cut the cost by about 40%.  I think the number one frugal shopping tip is matching coupons to sales, a lot of times I just get free stuff at the checkout.  Thanks for the post.  I hope my ideas are helpful to others.

Here is a good article online about saving money at the grocery store:

Well, here’s an obvious but often overlooked tip:  Don’t consume more food than your body needs for optimal functioning and wellness.

Obesity is an epidemic in our country.  We eat and eat and eat, unconsciously, and have lost touch with our bodies to such an extent that we don’t even know how to recognize hunger.

I don’t mean to be so graphic, but we are literally flushing much of our grocery budgets down the toilet and the rest we are wearing around our middles.

One of the healthiest and simplest (although not easiest) ways to save money in the grocery store is to only eat what your body truly needs.  Most overweight westerners would be surprised to see how little food is required for optimal wellness, I would venture.
