I have recently moved into a home that has an odor I can't locate the source of. I have removed and replaced all carpet and carpet padding, removed the kitchen tile floor and replaced it and put a new vinyl floor in the bathroom.
I have cleaned every surface in the house with vinegar and other chemical cleaners. I painted the kitchen and bedroom. I installed all new vent system and central air. The crawlspace is dry with no evidence of mold or other growth. The attic is clean and dry. The odor is noticeable when you walk in and permeates my clothes and I smell it on my clothes while away from the house. The odor is hard to describe. It is not sewer gas or moldy like a basement. A stinch that has me at my wits end, discouraged to invite people over and freaking out that this smell is now traveling with me in my clothes.

Were you able to resolve this issue? What you are describing is exactly what we are experiencing in our home. The only thing we haven't tried is painting the concrete basement with some sort of sealant.  I hesitate because it seems nice and dry with no visible signs of mold. Please let me know how if you were able to take care of the issue and how.  Thank you.
