Sometimes satin has chemical stabilizers in it to make it easier to work with.
To test your particular piece of fabric, take a 4″ square scrap and either serge the edge or otherwise stitch around the square to keep it from fraying. Hand-wash it in mild soap and blow dry it with your hairdryer on a low setting.
My mother-in-law is making my wedding dress, but she used the wrong satin and it's very stiff. There's a delicate lace overlay appliqued to the satin. What can I do to soften the satin without ruining any of I'm hoping to have more movement rather than structure. Thanks!
Good question Katie, does anyone know if it's possible to soften satin?
