Barter Your Services

If you need a service, you can contact a provider and offer yours in exchange. If they are interested in what you can offer, you have a bartering match!

Example: If you are a Flooring Specialist seeking a web site for your business, you can find and contact a Web Developer in your area and offer to refinish his/her floors. Another Example: If you are a Graphic Designer seeking a Dog Groomer for your puppy, you can find and contact a local groomer and offer to design a new brochure/ads for them, in exchange for
their services.

Some service barters are limited to local areas. Some can be implemented from any distance. This site provides you the ability to search and/or be found by local zip, state or anywhere in the US.

Frugal Gardening
****************

When you plow your garden beds, make sure not to do so when the soil is wet. Doing so will form dirt clods which will become difficult to break up and can cause problems with cultivation of your garden when summer comes.

Plan your vegetable garden this year focusing on vegetables that you know you’ll use in salads and other dishes this year. Take the time to plan the garden on paper to get the most out of the space you have and get the most out of the garden.

Keep a notebook / journal with all your garden information in it. Include all the vegetables that you will be planting, where you purchased the seeds, the names and varieties. By keeping detailed notes this year, you will learn which varieties grow the best in your garden to get the most out of it in later years.

Dedicate an area of your garden for herbs. These can be used to spice up your meals and many will continue to come up year after year once they have been planted.

Do a birdhouse check. If you have left them out all winter, take a look and make any repairs they may need. If you made some during the winter, make sure to place them outside since birds will begin looking for their nesting sites..

Best of luck in your frugal gardening.

Frugal Tips From Our Subscribers

Before you go out and spend an arm and a leg on pesticides, do yourself a favor and give boric acid a try. It kills roaches and ants and lots of other bugs. Do a little reading. I have found it before at the dollar store. (much cheaper than anyplace else I have found.)

Questions Needing Answers At The Forum

Cleaning Forum
1. I utilized hot water and fabric softener to remove a border of wall paper.  I cleaned the walls with a scrungie and sponge with hot water.  When I returned the next day I had long drips going down my walls.  I thought the paint would cover it but it didn’t.  I tried a small area using primer and they still show.  Any ideas on how to remove these drips?

2. I have frosted shower doors and I’ve tried all the products in my store to take away hard water stains but they never do and there are a lot I can’t use on frosted glass shower doors!  They are also very strong smelling and I’d like to get away from that!  I was wondering if there was a homemade version that would work for frosted shower doors.  I’m desperate to find something that works!

Family Forum
1. I know I’m not the only one here who has a spouse that wastes money, wastes resources, wastes time, wastes everything without a second thought. Not everyone is frugally minded! I’d love to hear about some success stories in converting spouses and family and how it was accomplished.  Thanks (I can use some inspiration as I am exasperated)

Utilities Forum
1. I purchased a home a few months ago that was built in 1989 and they used electricity as the energy source.  Since moving from an apartment I found that electricity cost a lot more than I thought it would.  This month my bill was over $300 dollars and it is just me in the house and I never use my lights and barely the heat.  What I want to know is how difficult is it to convert my home from using electricity as it’s energy to using propane?
