Welcome to The Frugal Life News. Sure seems like forever since I have gotten to email you! Our mailing list had problems when our server crashed and all has had to be restored which meant we have been adding back one newsletter at a time to get everything back in order. How touching the many emails were that you sent asking where your newsletter is and how to receive it and telling me you missed it. How encouraging! :-) We are using a different “from” address so I am hoping this will get through to all of you so you can change your ‘whitelist’ to keep this out of your Junk Mail folder. The forum has more questions than I could post so I will continue to work myself down the list and include the other unanswered questions in the next issues. Hope you enjoy this issue. We appreciate you sharing this newsletter and the website. Frugally yours, Randal ************ Frugal Finances ************ Keep The Change… Do you have a change jar at home? You know, someplace you toss loose change from cash transactions until you have enough to take to your bank? A change jar is a pretty good tool to use to create money to help pay off debts… or finance modest celebrations. Wouldn’t it be great if you could earn a little interest on your change before you take it to your bank? Wouldn’t it be even better if the “change jar fairy” visited every so often and kicked in a few cents, too? Well… it looks like the good people at Bank of America have been reading your mind. Their new service, called, Keep the Change, allows customers to round up their debit card purchases to the nearest dollar and put the change in an interest bearing savings account. For example, use your Bank of America debit card to purchase an item costing $3.25 and the total cost is rounded up to $4.00. Seventy-five cents is automatically transferred to your interest bearing savings account at the end of the day. Now for the “change jar fairy” part… Bank of America will MATCH 100% of your Keep the Change transfers for the first 3 months. After that the bank will contribute 5% a year up to a maximum match of $250. Critics of this plan say Bank of America is just increasing debit card usage and associated fees they receive from merchants, who in turn will raise prices everyone pays. I say using a debit card keeps you out of debt, and if a bank wants to help keep you out of debt by giving you money you can use to pay off debt, I’m not going to argue. ———————- ‘It has been a struggle, but we knew we couldn’t continue the way we were living. It was awful. What a victory and sense of accomplishment my husband and I feel. We are living on about 30 percent of our previous income, but we feel richer than ever. Thank you for your support and encouragement.’ — Karen and Don Pay off all of your debt in 5-7 years using the money you already make. I’m new to this site. I was curious if anyone has any ideas on how to save and reuse taco salad dip. I have beans and taco meat combined. Can that be frozen? What would you reuse it for? Thanks, Jennifer Critters Forum Q. I recently moved to the Bahamas from San Diego. There is a different ant here, very very small, less than a 1/4 of the size of a sugar ant. They move very fast, nowhere in particular, but as usual they love food on the counters and seem to hang out in the bathroom. There is no way of telling how they are getting in since they are microscopic little things. There is no lineup of them travelling in the house or anything…they just appear! Has anyone else heard of these or have any solutions on how to get rid of them. I have pets so anything that is harmful to pets is a no go. Q. I’ve been having a problem with some black widow spiders. They’re on my stairs and I literally run up my stairs and run down in fear of being bitten. I killed one once and I thought that was the end of that, but then I spotted another one on my stairs. Does anybody know an effective and cheap way on how to kill these venemous black widows? It’s a good think they’re usually shy and run away from me when they hear me running down/up the stairs. However, I still I don’t want to get too close to them. I think there are only a few spiders… I’m not sure if there are any spider babies or egg sacs. Do-It-Yourself Forum Q. I am into refinishing furniture and have done several pieces, I’ve run into a problem with my next project. Lead based paint is on one of the paint layers. Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to strip it? I’d rather not take it somewhere to be done, mostly because I’m afraid of the cost and I would like to keep it as a project for me to do in my free time. ************************* Home Based Business Ideas ************************* Nature’s Sunshine Products – Herbs and Supplements Earn an income selling over 500 natural health products, beverages, essential oils, skin care systems, water filters, and more.
